Punch News has reported that the operatives of the Lagos State Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a suspected internet fraudster while he was attempting to acquire a 2018 model Range Rover Vela worth N44million naira (N44, 000, 000). The spokesperson for the state command of the EFCC was said to have confirmed the suspect’ s apprehension while he was addressing the newsmen.
Based on the pieces of information that were gotten from the spokesperson, it was reported that the suspect was identified as Tobiloba Aramide Ogundiyan, the spokesperson added that Tobi defrauded an American- based investor and converted the funds to cryptocurrency after which he attempted to buy the car from a dealer in Lekki, Lagos state.
The spokesperson also said that the Commission had been on the suspect’ s trail for a while after they noticed his nefarious internet activities and financial transactions, unknown to Tobi, the operatives of the Commission were constantly surveilling him and following up his criminal activities.
However, the identity of the foreign investor that he reportedly defrauded has not been publicly made available but it was gathered that he has been contacted by the Commission and all his funds will be refunded to him in no time.
It was also reported that Tobi was also paraded alongside other suspects who were arrested for similar offenses. The spokesperson also told the newsmen that the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission recovered the following items when the suspect was apprehended; three smartphones, two laptops, several luxurious vehicles, and some undisclosed number of jewelry and rings.
The suspect is still in the custody of the EFCC as its operatives are still carrying out further investigation on the case.
