EMBARRASSMENT: Reactions As Buhari Allegedly Begs Queen of Netherlands For Money


There are series of reactions from Nigerians on what many described as an embarrassment on the citizens of this country, following the alleged solicitation for fund by President Muhammadu Buhari from the Queen of Netherlands.

The President who is among the World leaders that are participating in bilateral meeting on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly taking place in New York, USA, made this plea to Queen Maxima Zorreguieta.


In a statement by the president’ s media aide Femi Adesina, he revealed that Mr Buhari, during the closed- door meeting, stressed the importance of infrastructural development for the advancement of the country.

” We have the land. We have the people. Capital input is what we need, ” said President Muhammadu Buhari as he begged the Queen for funds to develop Nigeria.

Remember that the president is found of borrowing from foreign countries for most of capital projects with Nigeria’ s debt rising on yearly basis, and this has been a serious concern for many citizens.

The president told the Netherlands queen that he has done a tremendous jobs in the agricultural development in Nigeria. Provision of fertilizers, resuscitation of dams, and closing of borders with the neighbouring countries to enable local productions.

Mr Buhari added that we can do more with more funds because without infrastructure, development would be limited, that is why his government put emphasis on building roads, rail, and power.

While reacting, Queen Zorreguieta lauded what she called ” the huge effort” made by Nigeria to combat the COVID- 19 pandemic, saying, ” the country spent a great part of her GDP. ”


The queen said agriculture was music to her ears, being the daughter of a former agriculture minister. She pointed out that her biggest plea would be for Nigeria to make infrastructure available so that investors and aid donors could access areas beyond the major cities.

However, some Nigerians who are not happy with the action of President Muhammadu Buhari has been reacting on social media, many who were replying to the news as shared by Peoples Gazette on Twitter, they term it as an embarrassment because Nigeria has all it takes to build up the country without turning to beggars.


Others opine that the money would still be laundered as corruption has eaten deep under the administration.

FG is borrowing money at the expense of Nigerians, so they can loot.
