The Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Mohammed Adamu, has issued a fresh and stern instruction to commanders of police formations across the country, regarding how officers and men under them are to conduct themselves towards EndSARS protesters.
The instruction which was signed today October 15th, 2020 by the IGP and made available through the verified Twitter handle of the NPF through its Force Public Relations Department, specifically warned police officers and their commanders to as of a necessity, avoid the use of force against peaceful protesters.
He reminded his men of the rights of citizens to freely assemble, move and express themselves, urging the officers to uphold and protect these rights of the citizens.
He also called on the protesters to make an effort to go about their protests in a peaceful manner, and to watch against infiltration by rogue elements.
He stressed that the force is fully committed to making requested reforms without looking back, as well as bringing to justice, officers who have been involved in abuses. The IGP also mentioned plans to establish a people-friendly force.
