Been betrayed by just anyone is hard. But when you’ ve been betrayed by someone you thought was your best friend is the worst of feelings anyone can face. It’ s funny how sometimes the people you’ d take a bullet for are the ones behind the trigger.

In the political circles, some Presidents across the globe have had their presidency and political career ended by their most trusted and best of friends. To an extent, some were overthrown and sent to their graves by the same best friends they thought were supporting them.

President Alpha Condé.

The lastest of these shockers was one that happened in Guinea. President Alpha Condé after over 20 years of ruling in Guinea was overthrown by his trusted bodyguard Colonel Mamady Doumbouya in a bloodless coup d’ etat.

Apollo Milton Obote was the President of Uganda from 1966 to 1971 when he was overthrown by his right hand man General Idi Amin (saluting) while on a visit to Singapore to attend a Commonwealth conference, and Amin became President. According to reports, Idi Amin was the favorite and beloved General of the President yet Idi Amin showed him the exit.

Thomas Sankara was a Burkina Faso military officer who forced his way to be the President of Burkina through a coup d’ etat. To what looked like karma, Sankara was assassinated his right hand man Blaise Compaoré (military officer behind), who assumed leadership of the state shortly after having Sankara killed.

Patrice Lumumba whiles he was the President of Congo personally appointed Mobutu Sese Seko (wearing blue) as the Chief of Staff for his government. In 1961, Mobutu arranged for Lumumba’ s execution in 1961, and continued to lead the country’ s armed forces until he took power directly in a second coup in 1965.
