Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, has reacted to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State’s statement that northerners make up more than 80% of the country’s population and should therefore be treated with respect.
Ganduje is said to have said that the North is Nigeria’s majority tribe, and that minor tribes such as the Yoruba and Igbos should respect them more. On the subject of insecurity, Ganduje is said to have stated that previously, insecurity was only said to exist in Northern Nigeria. However, reports of rising insecurity in the South continue to surface on a daily basis, and various regions in the South continue to stir up agitations for independence from Nigeria.
Femi Fani-Kayode reacted angrily to the Kano Governor’s claim that the North accounts for more than 80% of Nigeria’s total population, and that the Yoruba, Igbos, and other minority tribes in the country should respect them for accomplishing such a feat. FFK bemoaned the fact that statements like those made by Ganduje may make his recent bridge-building attempt between the South and the North difficult. The Kano Governor was also chastised by FFK, who described his recent statements as perfidious, irresponsible, and disrespectful.
According to Femi (unquote), “recent calls for the establishment of peaceful understanding and bridges between the many regions, religious denominations, tribes, and even political structures in the country have notably been at the core of recent calls for the establishment of peaceful understanding and bridges between the many regions, religious denominations, tribes, and even political structures in the country have notably been at the core of recent calls for the establishment of peaceful understanding and bridges between the many regions, religious denominations, tribe Recent statements by the Kano Governor, on the other hand, may render all of my efforts in vain.
Because we want to establish peace, build bridges between the region, and create a sense of unity in the country so that Nigeria does not experience another civil war, this does not imply that the other leaders are cowards or weak. Any other provocative statement or action could cause the ability to reason to be disrupted, resulting in massive anarchy, destruction, and death.
FFK concluded by cautioning the Kano Governor and others who make similar statements to refrain from doing so, because if they do, people like him will abandon the path of peace and bridge-building in favor of burning it down and facing the consequences.
See many reactions to the statement from FFK below.
Many Nigerians are clearly dissatisfied with the governor of Kano’s recent statement, as evidenced by the reactions listed above. While many people slammed him, others slammed Femi as well, with one user making a rather amusing statement in which he wondered when Femi became a political engineer who built bridges.
However, it is necessary to acknowledge that FFK may be correct on this point. At a time when insecurity, religious and political differences have divided many parts of the country and pitted different regions of the country against one another, the issue of nation building has become extremely important and necessary. If the President and notable men like FFK continue to work hard every day to ensure that the country remains united and one, statements like Ganduje’s will have to be removed from the system.
