The apex Igbo socio- political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has revealed that the secessionist activities of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) would affect the chances of the Southeast region of producing the next president come 2023.
In an exclusive chat with Daily Post, the Deputy President- General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dimm Uche Okwukwu revealed the grand plot of the detained leader ahead of the general polls.
According to him, Kanu has issued a directive to all his followers that the ongoing Voter Registration should be boycotted and must destroy their Permanent Voter Cards. These he said would have a huge negative effect on the chance of the Igbo ethnic group.
While condemning Kanu approach towards the region’ s marginalization, Okwukwu appealed to Nigerians not to take Kanu seriously in his quest and hinted that the Nigerian- British citizens cannot represent the eyes and voices of other Igbo people.
” Marginalisation has a way of producing results and you will agree with me that majority of the people are poor and marginalised,
” When you tell them what they want to hear, these poor marginalized people will follow you; but Nnamdi Kanu is not getting it right because he has subscribed to violence as a way and has not limited it to Igbo leaders,
” He has attacked Asiwaju in Lagos, Ekweremadu, Rotimi Amaechi; he has threatened to kill Igbo leaders and governors so he not only attacking outsiders; he is also attacking his Igbo brothers and sisters, ” he said
He also emphasized that the Igbos are ready to live in peace and harmony while Kanu should be put where he belongs. He insisted that he(Kanu) is not a leader in the region and can’ t be their mouth either.
Similarly, he said all they demand is a fair and equal opportunity like other major ethnic groups in the country(Yoruba and Hausa) who had produced a president since the return of democracy including a minority group. He intimated that once this is done, no one among the Igbo ethnic would grumble over marginalization.
” Kanu’ s agitation will certainly to a large extent affect our chances. Nnamdi Kanu’ s agitations, pronouncements, actions, omissions and commissions affect us in one way or the other,
” He is preventing voters’ registration in Igbo land, he is asking supporters to destroy their PVC. So, apart from the fact that Nigeria needs us to some extent, they mirror us through Nnamdi Kanu’ s actions, ” he revealed
” The outcome of his action is jeopardizing our desire because when you say people should destroy their PVCs and not participate in voters’ registration, it affects us, I won’ t deny that in one way or the other,
” However, I’ m appealing that nobody should mirror the Igbos through the actions of IPOB” , he concluded.
