In October 2020, Nigerians took to the streets to protest in a bid to call on the government to put an end to police brutality.

The protest lasted for days and spread from one state to the other with citizens standing on their ground that they were tired of the harsh treatment vetted out to them by rogue operatives.

One of the major demands by the protesters was for the government to put an end to the police unit, Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The protest soon became tagged “EndSARS” and it went on for days as lots of people shared gory stories of their experience in the hands of some operatives of SARS.

The protest lasted for days and finally came to an end after the incident now known as the “Lekki Massacre” or “Lekki Shooting Incident.”

DJ Switch Narrates What Happened During Lekki Shooting Incident

Popular Nigerian DJ, DJ Switch, who went live during the shooting of protesters at Lekki toll gate, in a video gave a detailed account of what happened that night, and the biggest mistake she made

She said, “I just want to clear a few things that I’ve been seeing online. To our leaders, I urge you please do not minimize the suffering of families. Do not insult the grief of Nigerians, do not insult the intelligence of Nigerians. Do not insult the pain that families are facing. People were falling left and right.

“Yes, there were soldiers there. Another part that people are not really talking about. The police also came, the SARS people we’re talking about also came minutes after the soldiers left. They were tear-gassing. It’s like Cotonou pepper mixed with acid. We were running. This our coconut head generation, we will run and then come back.

“They switched off the lights and it was pitch black. While the soldiers were running around and picking their shells, we were running around and picking their shelves too. The police and SARS were also there, aiming and shooting.”

She proceeded to show some of the shells that they had picked up during the shooting and went ahead to narrate how a guy had dived on top of her in order to protect her from bullets being fired. DJ Switch noted that the guy had been shot on top of her.

The military, they were there, shooting and killing Nigerian citizens on Nigerian soil. They were there shooting. Pointing the gun at us and shooting, live bullets. . Who takes life bullets to a protest? Who does that?”

She called on the leaders of the nation not to play with the intelligence of Nigerians.

DJ Switch noted that they carried the dead bodies of those who were shot to the feet of the soldiers so that they would see what they did.

“I asked the commander why are you killing us? I wish we did not do that, I wish we kept the bodies because they ended up throwing the bodies into their vans.”

She also noted that she never said 78 people died during the shooting incident.

She said, “When I was doing the live, seven people had died. When my battery died, we had counted about 15 people. I don’t know if it was more than that. We had lots of people that had stray bullet wounds, gunshot wounds, and all that.”

“People died, it was not a photoshop,” she emphasized.

DJ Switch Will Soon Be Exposed As A Fraud – Lai Mohammed

Shortly after DJ Switch gave her account of the Lekki shooting incident, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed stated that she, “will be exposed as a fraud” soon.

Lai Mohammed in a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, November 19 stated that DJ Switch will soon be exposed.

The minister who described the event of October 20, 2020, as a “massacre without bodies”, insisted that contrary to DJ Switch’s claims, not a single body has been produced or a single family has come out to claim their family member was killed at the Lekki tollgate.

He said, “One of the purveyors of fake news was one DJ Switch which real name is Obianuju Catherine Udeh, even though she claimed authentic evidence of mass killings. Surprisingly, instead of presenting whatever evidence she may have, she chose to escape from the country on the claim that her life was in danger. In danger for who?

“The military has come out to say we never sought after her and to the best of my knowledge, the police never declared her wanted.

“Who is she fighting for? What are her real motives? Who is she fighting for? What are her sponsors?

“If she has any evidence of killings, why is she not presenting such evidence to the panel? If she was so desperate for asylum, does she have to resort to tarnishing the image of the country?

“In fullness of time, this lady will be exposed for what she is, a fraud.

“It is depressing and demoralizing to continue to vilify men and women in uniform who themselves were victims of senseless violence carried out by hoodlums.”

DJ Switch Will Know No Peace – Joe Igbokwe

Joe Igbokwe who is one of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s aide also rained curses on DJ Switch after her account of Lekki shooting incident.

According to Igbokwe who is the Special Adviser to the governor on Drainage and Water Resources, DJ Switch, “will know no peace” until she confesses that she lied about the Lekki shootings.

Igbokwe, who is also a former spokesperson for the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, stated this in a Facebook post.

Igbokwe wrote, “In Canada abi (sic) with 78 dead bodies? You will come back to meet us. Unless this lady comes out openly that she lied against Laos State and Nigeria, she will know no peace till the end of age. Your tragic lies put the nation on fire.”

He however deleted the post.

This was in addition to other people who accused DJ Switch of lying during the incident.

DJ Switch Vindicated As Panel Reveals Findings

It seems DJ Switch has finally been vindicated as it has been officially confirmed by the Lagos judicial panel on police brutality that officers of the Nigerian army really did shoot at and kill protesters at Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020.

In its report submitted to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos state governor, on Monday, the panel presented five key findings.

Finding 1: Soldiers killed defenceless protesters, refused medical intervention for them

Finding 2: Police shot at protesters picked up bullets to cover-up

Finding 3: LCC tampered with and withheld CCTV footage

Finding 4: Lagos state governor invited army to deploy soldiers.

Finding 5: There was an attempt to cover up the incident

Reacting to the report, DJ Switch stated that those behind the act shattered many lives and also tried to destroy hers. She added that what the perpetrators tried to hide, has also been made public by them.

In her words, “Shattered so many lives, tried to destroy mine. Only for what you desperately tried to hide to be made public… by you! The truth needs no defence! #EndSARS.”
