Veteran Nollywood actors and actresses have paid their last respects to their late colleague Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe at his burial.

The late actor was buried, according to Islamic rites, at his home in Ikorodu, a suburb of Lagos State, on Thursday.

Baba Suwe is said to have died on Monday afternoon, after an illness, at the age of 63.

The news of his death drew reactions from prominent Nigerians including the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo who said, ” Baba Suwe’ s death had left a vacuum that would take some time to be filled in the entertainment industry. I pray that God will grant the late Babatunde Omidina eternal rest and grant the family, colleagues, and associates the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

At the burial, some fans dressed up as the late actor whenever he was in character. Going by the mood at the scene, the tough reality has dawned that the once boisterous and immensely talented actor is gone!

At the programme are many filmmakers that include Bolaji Amusan, aka Baba Latin, Sunday Omobolanle, Aluwe, Madam Saje, Femi Adebayo and many others.

Baba Suwe was born on 22 August 1958, in Inabere Street in Lagos Island where he grew up but hailed from Ikorodu local government area of Lagos State, southwestern Nigeria.

Omidina had his primary education at Jamaitul Islamial Primary School in Lagos and Children Boarding School, Osogbo before he proceeded to Adekanbi Commercial High School in Mile 12, Lagos state but obtained the West African School Certificate from Ifeoluwa Grammar School in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, southwestern Nigeria.

Omidina began acting in 1971 but came into limelight after he featured in a movie titled, Omolasan, a film produced by Obalende. He became more popular after he featured in Iru Esin, produced by Olaiya Igwe in 1997.

He had featured and produced several Nigerian movies such as Baba Jaiye jaiye, a movie that featured Funke Akindele and Femi Adebayo, the son of the veteran actor Adebayo Salami.
