The people of the Izombe community in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State have no other option than to carry their belongings and leave the town as men of the Nigeria Army are reportedly killing any resident sighted.
Recall that the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had earlier reported that Soldiers and the youths of the Izombe community clashed over the death of one Chukwunonso Iherue allegedly killed by Military men in Umuokwu- Izombe.
According to the leader of the community, Mr. James, two military men were killed while their vehicle was burnt during the attack.
He said, ” I was informed that two military men were killed and their vehicle set ablaze after the two military personnel had killed one young man, Chukwunonso Iherue, in Umuokwu- Izombe.
” The problem arose from a misunderstanding between the youth and soldiers over crude oil bunkering activities, ” he added.
However, the Soldiers who reportedly flee during the attack returned to the community to carry out the shoot at sight order.
According to Saharareporters, the community has been deserted as the Soldiers are reportedly killing anybody seen in the community and also burning their houses.
In a viral video of the attack, one of the residents could be heard saying, ” This one is still burning, all the houses were burnt. They burnt down everywhere. They have destroyed everything. All the houses were burnt down, nothing remains. ”
Also, another resident who spoke on the issue said, ” Nigeria Army is committing genocide in South Eastern Nigeria ordering kill on sight after a mob killed a Soldier who shot an innocent man dead.
” These same soldiers will apologise for mistakenly killing an innocent civilian in Northern Nigeria while fighting Islamic terrorist Boko Harm but in the South- East they will order them to shoot at anyone.
” Ethnic cleansing is happening in Nigeria. Many people are missing and more than 100 houses burnt to ashes. “
