The federal government has released an improved e- passport in order to streamline the application process for Nigerians both at home and abroad.
The official launch of the upgraded e- passport occurred at the Nigerian High Commission in London, UK, according to a statement by Sola Fasure, media assistant to Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior.
” What we’ ve come to do here (in the UK) is emblematic of the ministry’ s primary mandate, as well as the Federal Government of Nigeria’ s support of citizenship integrity, ” he said.
As we all know, there have been significant issues in passport management, ranging from a lack of booklets to hawking and a corrupt business created around it.
These difficulties have persisted for far too long, and many individuals have become cynical, while others have accepted them as normal and moved on.
” I don’ t believe any difficulty is insurmountable, so we’ re going to fix all of the issues with the passport administration, and we’ re already doing so. ”
According to Aregbesola, the new e- passport is a ” great upgrade” over the regular passport introduced in 2007.
He claims it has more advanced security features, making it one of the world’ s most secure passports.
Nigeria’ s upgraded e- passport is a significant advancement over the biometric passport technology that Nigeria adopted in 2007 as a strategic move in combating counterfeiting. Under the prior machine- readable passport regime, impersonation and other forms of fraud were associated with obtaining travel documents, he stated.
” We recognize that technology is in charge of the world, and we keep up with the latest developments in the industry. ”
” The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has worked diligently and in close collaboration with Messrs. Iris Smart Technologies Limited to develop and implement passport improvements throughout the years. ”
The improvements, according to Aregbesola, are in line with worldwide best practices, such as the International Civil Aviation Organization’ s (ICAO) Standards and Regulations.
Isa Jere, the acting comptroller- general of NIS, stated in his remarks that the service is prepared to meet the demand for passports in the United Kingdom.
According to Jere, his officers are always prepared to issue the new passports at the official rate listed on the NIS website.
” We are ready to serve the public and will immediately begin rolling out the new upgraded e- passport in the United Kingdom. ” ” Our employees are professionals who will provide exceptional service to our constituents, ” he stated.
” Those with any complaints should use the publicly listed complaint channels to effectively handle any issues reported, ” says the statement.
