Governor Ganduje bans posters, banners at Eid praying grounds

Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has banned the display of political posters and banners at the praying ground of Eid.

The governor through his Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, said flaunting of posters and banners by political actors could serve as distractions during prayers and festivity.

“While the two rakaat Eid Prayer is considered as an important ritual after a month long Ramadan fasting, festive activities that follow are aimed at showcasing our rich cultural heritage where even foreigners witness them.”

“It is therefore inappropriate or even disrespectful for persons or political parties to reduce such places to grounds for rallies or campaigns,” he said.

He said Eid praying ground would be a convergence of people from different political settings, and display of banners and posters could be a potential incitement of violence.

He sounded words of warning to the people of the state to refrain from political rallies under any guise during the Eid.

The governor called on the security agencies to take appropriate measures against any act that is inimical to the prevailing peace in the state.

He admonished the people of the state to continue to remember the state and the nation in their prayers and comply with the teaching of the Holy month of Ramadan.
