Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, the governor of Zamfara State, has revealed that his administration has reached an agreement to purchase armed drones with a high altitude that will aid in detecting bandit hideouts and gathering intelligence that will lead to the end of the state’ s insurgency.
The governor claimed he traveled on an official trip to the United Kingdom and Turkey with some officials for roughly two weeks to find a long- term solution to the state’ s banditry problem.
” The purpose of the trip was to seek assistance in the areas of security, job development, and inviting foreign investors for socioeconomic progress, ” he explained.
” Not just in the northern states, but throughout Nigeria, Zamfara State has become a bandit colony, and the state has suffered from the destruction of socio- economic growth. ”
” Now, the state administration is considering purchasing armed drones to gain access to bandit hideouts and improve intelligence collection in order to combat banditry and other criminal activities in the state. ”
According to the Governor, the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a foreign corporation to construct natural resources and gold refineries in order to combat illegal mining and create jobs for the state’ s inhabitants.
He stated that gold refineries will be built under his watch in order to enhance state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), create jobs, and put an end to illegal mining, which many believe is one of the reasons banditry is ravaging the state.
The Governor stated that the state government has acquired wireless internet clouds for two tertiary institutions in the state, promising to strengthen the Nigeria Digital Economy Policy and Strategy.
” The wireless cloud project provides a foundation for providing campus- wide access to internet service for teaching, research, and development, ” he said, adding that the project will also benefit adjacent towns.
