Governor Speaks Out, Reveals The Total Number Of People Killed By Terrorists In Benue State
According to Daily Post, Since 2011, unprovoked attacks by Fulani jihadists on defenseless people in Benue State have killed more than 5, 000 lives. Governor Ortom spoke at the passing out procession of 500 Benue State Community Volunteer Guards on August 4, 2022. The Governor said that rising insecurity in the country has compounded Benue State’ s security situation due to the federal government’ s failure to address instability.
Due to the federal government’ s failure, Governor Ortom said the state opted to reexamine the Benue State Vigilante Law of 2000 to handle rising security challenges. His administration had to change the law to allow Community Volunteer Guards to help traditional security forces combat insecurity in the state. ” By the new law, the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards can carry legally approved weapons, ” said the governor.
Benue State has been targeted because of Governor Ortom’ s ” administration’ s emphasis on the rule of law rather than the rule of terror” and for standing with his people in their unwillingness to yield their land, identity, and Judeo- Christian faith and values to the Islamization agenda, he stated. According to Governor Ortom, the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards are a ” modest endeavor” to help communities escape the crimes of Fulani herdsmen.
