Unknown gunmen have allegedly killed no fewer than 17 persons during the attack in the Effium community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
According to reports by Sahara reporters, the incident occurred on Saturday, while the gunmen shooting sporadically at residents, some of whom sustained injuries while 17 died.
Scooper News learnt that there had been a lingering communal crisis between Ezza- Effium and Effium people of the Ohuakwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State since January 2021, which had resulted in the death of innocent persons and destruction of property worth millions of naira.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Loveth Odah, who spoke with the newsmen confirmed the fresh attack but said nobody was reported to the police to have died.
Odah’ s statement read, ” They never reported one person not to talk of 17 people killed. We only heard that there was restiveness in the area and that the situation has been brought under control.
” They reported back under two hours that the situation has been brought under control, ” Odah said
Man Assaults Woman Over N5, 000 GCE Registration Fee
A man identified as Mr. Sunday Adeleke allegedly assaulted a woman named Silverleen Obasi for demanding an explanation over the N5, 000 increase in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) registration for her younger brother’ s friend.
According to reports by Sahara Reporter, Adeleke slapped Obasi and also pushed her against a glass which gave her a deep cut on her leg. The incident occurred at Adeleke’ s office identified as Varsity Point, beside Stanbic IBTC, Abule Ado, Lagos.
Scooper News learnt that Obasi younger brother’ s friend had paid Adeleke a sum of N45, 000 for the registration of the WASSCE Private examination also known as General Certificate Examination (GCE).
The Marshall Belt of Investigation (MBI) Human Rights group said Adeleke had been on the run since and would be traced to another office at FESTAC.
Onasi’ s statement read, ” This man asked me to get out of his office. He didn’ t even know me before. I said sir but why. He shouted at me to get out. I said you’ re very rude as you don’ t even know me and did not allow me to talk before you started insulting me like this.
” He came from where he was and started dragging my clothes. I did nothing to him. People came close to him dragging me with him, that he should leave me alone, and he slapped me. He pushed me and my leg hit the glass and gave me this deep cut. “
