At least three traditional rulers were murdered in an assault by unknown gunmen in the Nnenasa village, headquarters of Imo State’s Njaba Local Government Area.
The area’s traditional rulers, numbering in excess of 20, were holding a stakeholders’ meeting in the community’s local government offices when gunmen stormed the site and started fire on them.
Other traditional rulers were reportedly injured in different degrees.
Mike Abattam, the State Police Command’s spokesperson, stated that two of the traditional rulers had been verified deceased and that the command had begun an inquiry into the event.
Obi 1 of Okwudor independent community, Eze E. Anayochukwu Durueburuo, and Eze Sampson Osunwa of Ihebineowerre autonomous community were among the monarchs reported dead.
