Friends of Haruna Gadzama, the pilot who flew the ill-fated Air Force plane that crashed in Abuja today, have taken to social media to share memories of their departed friend.
Flt. Lt. Haruna Gadzama was the pilot of the Nigerian Air Force Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft that crashed close to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Sunday.
Shortly after the plane crash, a Twitter user identified as @EmmanuelMacdeni took to the microblogging site to say that the late Haruna was his friend.
Emmanuel Macden wrote – my friend was the pilot of that flight, rest well Haruna Gadzama.
In a series of tweets, another person who claims to be the late pilot’s friend, described him as a hero who will forever be missed.

In another tweet, Mairo said that she is wearing the workout outfit Haruna got for her, and wondered why it was such a coincidence.
Sahara Reporters earlier reported that the aircraft was on its way to Minna, Niger State, but soon after departure it reported engine failure, and soon crashed close to the runway of the Abuja airport.
The Nigerian Air Force said that seven personnel were on board the aircraft, and they all lost their lives in the accident.
Eyewitnesses said that the late pilot was a hero, that they watched how he fought his best to make sure the plane did not crash into a residential area.
According to the tweet which was made by the Ex Junior Pilot Association, they described Haruna as a jovial and one of the most hardworking officers the Nigerian Air Force had. They said that he was an officer well loved by many.
Sahara Reporters was able to get the names of five out of the seven personnel that lost their lives in the accident. And apart from Haruna Gadzama, others were – Flt. Lt. Piyo, Flt. Offr. Okpara, FS Olawumi, and ACM Johnson.
Many are calling for an investigation into the plane crash, so we hope that will be carried out, so that we get to know what led to the death of these personal.
We pray that may the soul of Haruna Gadzama and the souls of those who lost their lives in the accident rest in perfect peace.
Gadzama indeed died as a hero. He could have allowed the plane to crash into a residential area and probably kill several other people and destroy buildings. But even when death was staring at him in the face, he tried his best to save lives.
