Pandemonium rocked the city of Jos, Plateau State, as officers of Nigerian Police opened fire on #EndSARS protesters.
The protesters who turned out in their numbers to join the ongoing demand for total scrapping of the newly formed unit of the police, SWAT, were met with stiff opposition from the police, who shot at them in a bid to disperse them. Unconfirmed report has it that many protesters have been injured.
Despite protesters being civil, they have been met with force from police officers, who shot live bullets at them in Jos and other places across the country.
The #EndSARS protest has drawn international attention with the United Kingdom, Friends of Nigeria and International Celebrities urging the Nigerian Government to ensure accountability within the police.
Ten persons have so far been confirmed dead in the ongoing protest across the country as a result of police brutality. Amnesty International recorded over 82 cases of SARS brutality from 2017 to 2020.
