Few days ago, President Buhari nominated his aide, Lauretta Onochie for a post of National commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Body(INEC). This got an outcry by Nigerians, groups and PDP political party as they all rejected the move, claiming that she is a partisan who is involved in politics and can easily be influenced.
As usual, the case will be brought to the Senate for confirmation. However, the Senate rejected the move. The recommendation was brought up by the committee chairman of the screening process, Kabiru Gaya who noted that her disqualification was because it negates federal character principles.
Popular human activist, Deji Adeyanju has also praised the Senate for their decisions. He added that the critics queries were never a waste.
In his words, he said
‘Shameless & partisan Lauretta Onochie rejected by the Senate. All hope is not lost after all. Our shouting is always important’
