Hope Uzodinma, the governor of Imo State, has made efforts to reclaim lands and properties that were unlawfully stolen or purchased by past governments.
To this end, Uzodinma established the White Paper on Lands and Other Related Matters Implementation Committee.
As per Uzodinma, the Working group would endeavour to reclaim assets suggested by the state’s Judicial Commission of Inquiry.
“Your major tasks are to reclaim for the citizens of Imo all the properties designated in the White paper as spelled forth in the Commission guidelines,” Uzodinma stated during the commissioning.
He stated that the inauguration had emphasised his administration’s slogans of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Recovery.
“The White Paper on Lands and Related Matters is unequivocal — it is now an actual legal truth that lands and assets belonging to both the State and the citizens were fraudulently obtained or seized, as determined by the Judicial Commission of Inquiry. The government adopted these proposals and produced a White paper as a result,” he explained.
Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, Committee chairman, praised the Governor for the rare honour, which is the first of its type.
The state has confiscated certain assets belonging to former Governor of the State, Rochas Okorocha.
Okorocha, on the other hand, is suing the Imo Government over the move.
