The All Progressives Congress [APC] has stated its readiness to drag the Court of Appeal sitting in Calabar, Cross River State, to the National Judicial Council [NJC].
APC expressed concern over a perceived “strange judgement” issued by Appeal Court in the Akwa Ibom State election petition involving Senator Albert Akpan of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] and Senator Godswill Akpabio of APC.
APC said this in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu.
According to Issa-Onilu, the appellate court delivered a strange “judgment” on October 18, 2019, recognising PDP’s Senator Albert Akpan as the winner of the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District election.
He said: “The Court of Appeal’s strange ‘judgment’ was delivered in blatant disobedience to the directive of the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, who had disbanded the appeal panel and constituted a new panel eight clear days before it determined the appeal filed by the APC and Bassey Etim, the party’s senatorial candidate in the 2019 National Assembly election in Akwa Ibom.
“The party’s legal department will in due course submit a formal petition to the NJC over this travesty.”
