Our attention has been drawn to the false narrative republished in today’s Guardian Newspaper claiming that ‘silent godfathers’ influenced appointments in to the cabinet of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.
It will be recalled that the first sponsored narrative with the aim of discrediting the credibility and processes leading to the cabinet appointments in the state was published on Thursday, the 10th of October, 2019.
In a statement released to newsmen in Abuja by the National Coordinator of the coalition, Dr. Edwin Obune, the group said nominations were purely based on merit, proven track records and capacity to deliver good governance to Ndi-Enugu on the larger scale of administration.
The group noted that the State Executive Council will implement the recommendations of the 12 Sectoral Adhoc Committees report in the state to the later without obfuscation or derailment.
It however expressed confidence in the ability of the present cabinet members to drive home the policy thrust of the state government.
It further noted that implementation target is attached to each Ministry, Department and Agency of the state as well as performance assessment of cabinet members with specific time-frame on service delivery.
However, we understand that there are still some frayed nerves who are not happy over their inability to make it to the cabinet, but we appeal to them never to allow the strained passion to affect the bond of our affections and shared hope for prosperity and good governance in the state.
On this note, we condemn the attempt by some persons to throw away the baby with the bath water simply because they were not successful in their bid to be appointed.
Have they forgotten that power belongs to God?
Hence, sponsoring false and spurious narratives against the character and person of the governor just because their time to serve the state has not come should not be an option because the strength of service to Ndi-Enugu is not measured by the number of persons in the cabinet but by our collective resolve and commitment to make the necessary sacrifice that will make the state great again.
The truth remains that Enugu is a state endowed with many capable hands and great minds who can turn things around for good even without occupying any political office in the state.
Therefore, trying to make the world to believe the existence of ‘silent godfathers’ as alleged in the report when there is nothing like that in reality betrays our avowed love and shared belief that Enugu State is in the Hands of God.
We believe the political affirmation we professed during and after the general election is still sacrosant which our inability to make it to the cabinet cannot destroy in months and years to come.
We therefore enjoin politicians and supporters of the governor in the state and beyond to continue to pray and support government policies and programmes in the state without strings attached.
In other words, they should think of what to do for the state and not what the state will do for them.
This is the concept and philosophy behind our unyielding belief that Enugu State is in the Hands of God!
