I fought Abacha, plotted his overthrow, says Reno Omokri
Reno Omokri, former special adviser to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, says he once plotted to overthrow the military regime of late General Sani Abacha.
PlatinumPost reports that Abacha ruled as the military head of state of Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998. He seized power on 17 November 1993 in the last successful coup d’etat in the military history of the country.
But Omokri, in a post on Facebook on Saturday, said at age 23, he confronted the military government and went as far as plotting its overthrow.
The Delta State-born activist stated this in a reaction to alleged threat on his daughter’s life.
His words : “I thank the Metropolitan Police for providing my family and I with augmented security after the threat to my daughter’s life. We will not be deterred. We will not hide. My family and I will go on our daily walks and frequent travels. No coward will make us cow away!
“At the age of 23, I fought Abacha and plotted his overthrow. Tope Fasua, a former Presidential candidate, Shaka Momodu, the editor of ThisDay, and Dan Akpovwa, the publisher of Abuja Inquirer, can bear me witness. If I can withstand Abacha, I can withstand any threats! The day my daughter and I will die has been foreordained by God, and you cannot kill any of us before the day God ordained for us to die.”
