If You Mentioned Peter Obi’s Name, You’re On Your Own -Commissioner
The issue of Peter Obi, former Anambra Governor’s presidential ambition is currently on the front burner of Nigerian politics.
Like it or not, many people see him as capable of springing a surprise in the forthcoming presidential election, and this has accounted for a range of controversies surrounding the name, Peter Obi.
The latest is coming from the Igbo state of Ebonyi, where the state government has come out to say to anyone insinuating that Governor Dave Umahi was against Obi’s presidency: you are on your own.
The Eagle reports that the governor had, on June 13, said that the votes of Ebonyi people would go to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and not the Labour party, where Obi is presidential candidate, a statement that has unruffled feathers.
Some have also gone ahead to give it more interpretations.

Reacting to these, however, the Ebony State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Uchenna Orji said that anyone who mentioned Peter Obi over the issue, was “on his own”.
Briefing newsmen after the state Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, the commissioner declared:
“No one has mentioned Peter Obi and anyone saying so may have problems with him which we don’t”.
Referring to Labour party as a mushroom party, Orji said that it was difficult for anyone to win the presidency via what he called a ‘mushroom’ party.
“We would however, ensure that south east people realise that we have a destination and want to meet up with the rest of the nation.
“These are states which believe in one country where there is social justice and equity”.
According to him, “We have to appreciate the philosophy of the late iconic nationalist, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe.
“When he was urged to join a mushroom party and agitation, he declined opting to launch himself into mainstream politics.

“This brought several advantages such as a south easterner becoming the first vice president under a presidential system of government in the country.
“The philosophy had earlier earned us the first governor general and ceremonial head of state under a parliamentary system of government,”
