The Imo state Police Command has revealed what led to the death of Ahmed Gulak.
The police said that it was 6 men using a Toyota Sienna that intercepted the Toyota Camry taxi he was travelling with along side two other persons, he was identified and killed before the assailants fled.
In a statement signed by SP John Elkana, Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, on behalf of CP Abutu Yaro.
He said the late Gulak left his accommodation at Protea Hotel and headed for the airport without informing the Police given the precarious security situation in the state.
Therefore he travelled through the city without police escorts, on getting to Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Airport, tragedy struck as men of the under world intercepted his vehicle and killed him.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of police has drafted a team of special forces to cordone off the area, as detectives get down to work to unravel those behind the dastardly act.
Part of the statement reads:
“Ahmed Gulak left his room at Protea Hotel without informing the Police nor sister agencies in view of the fragile security situation in the South East and Imo in particular. He left without any security escorts”
The late Ahmed Gulak was a former Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters before he defected to the APC in 2014
