Twelve corpses of the 102 kept in the Department of Anatomy at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, were in the early hours of Tuesday burnt to ashes in a fire outbreak that gutted the department.
It was gathered that the inferno started at the department around 3 a.m. on Tuesday due to electricity surge which affected a section of the morgue where corpses were kept.
The fire was quickly put off by combined efforts of the security and fire services unit of the university thus averting what could have resulted to a major fire outbreak in the university.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, a copy of which was made available to newsmen in Osogbo confirmed the fire outbreak stating that the fire started around 3 a.m.
