The pictures of a female politician in Kenya moving around with her two female bodyguards have been seen online, thereby sparking mixed reactions from social media users.
According to Tuko, the female body guard of Garissa Woman Representative, Anab Subow Gure was the center of attention when she attended several functions in her county.
The Member of Parliament had shared pictures of her tour on her Facebook page, which showed her two female aides dressed in hijabs, military combat bulletproof vests and brandishing AK47 rifles.
Though they were other male military guards, people were more interested in the female two guards who tagged along Gure as she walked around some wards.
While some respondent commended the move, others questioned the agility of the women given the clothes they were wearing.
Female bodyguards are not really new in Africa as former Libyan leader, the late Muammar Gaddafi use to go around with female bodyguards.
Also, the Tanzanian President – Mama Samia Suluhu who had toured Kenya on May 2021, came with a female security team.
One would have probably be thinking that the work of providing security escorts services would be a work for the men only, but that seems not to truly the case anymore.
Well, this could just a way of balancing the gender bias that has been seen in some African societies for long.
This has further proven the popular saying right, ‘what a man can do, a woman can do much better’.
