Lionel Messi scored the 700th goal of his remarkable career against Atletico Madrid earlier this week.

The Barcelona legend celebrated goal number 700 with a beautiful Panenka penalty past Jan Oblak, arguably the world’s best goalkeeper right now.

Goal number 700 had been a little while coming for Messi by his own extraordinary standards. He failed to score against Sevilla, Athletic Bilbao and Celta Vigo before finally breaking his three-game ’drought’ against Atleti on Tuesday.

However, Messi has scored plenty of goals in the past against Sevilla, Athletic and Celta.

In fact, out of the 78 teams Messi has faced, he’s scored against 68 of them – an incredible statistic.

But who are the 10 clubs that have successfully thwarted Messi?

Per Catalan newspaper Sport , the 10 clubs are…
Inter Milan
Incredibly, Inter have managed to prevent Messi from scoring on four separate occasions. They deserve some kind of medal for that record.
He drew a blank on three occasions during the 2009/10 season – when Inter, managed by Jose Mourinho, won the Champions League – and again last October.

Inter, it turns out, are Messi’s bogey team.

Rubin Kazan
Like Inter, Russian side Rubin Kazan have also denied Messi from scoring on four occasions.

He played the full 90 minutes both home and away during the 2009/10 season without hitting the net.

The following season, he came on as a substitute in both games and, once again, couldn’t score.

Xerez
Messi has scored against almost every Spanish team he’s ever faced – but Xerez, who currently compete in Spain’s fourth tier, managed to stop the world-class forward both home and away during the 2009/10 campaign.

Benfica
Messi was injured when Barcelona played Benfica in the 2005/06 Champions League quarter-finals, but he featured in both games against the Portuguese outfit during the 2012/13 group stages.
He provided both assists in Barça’s 2-0 away win, but only played for 28 minutes at Camp Nou when he suffered a knee injury after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Udinese
Back during the early stages of his career, Messi faced Italian side Udinese in the 2005/06 Champions League group stages.

He played 70 minutes in the home match but failed to score, and was left on the bench by Frank Rijkaard for the away game.

Murcia
Barcelona have faced Murcia on four occasions since 2008 – but Messi has only featured against the Spanish side once. That was in May 2008.

Barça sealed a 5-3 victory but Messi, rather surprisingly, didn’t score.

He did, however, register two assists in the victory.

Napoli
Messi has only come up against Napoli on one occasion in a competitive match – and that was back in February.

He failed to score against the Italian side – who, incidentally, worship his compatriot Diego Maradona – but will have another opportunity when the two teams meet again at Camp Nou next month.

Cadiz
Barcelona faced Cadiz home and away during the 2005/06 La Liga campaign and Messi played in the away fixture, providing an assist (but failing to score) in a 3-1 win for the Catalan club.

Al Sadd
Xavi, who could become Messi’s next manager at Barcelona if reports are to be believed, is the current head coach of Qatar-based Al Sadd.

Messi played against them during the 2011/12 FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals but wasn’t able to get himself on the scoresheet in Barça’s 4-0 victory.

Gramenet
Barcelona suffered a humiliating 1-0 defeat to lowly Gramenet in the Copa del Rey second round during the 2004/05 season – when Messi was still only very young.

He played for 73 minutes but was powerless to prevent his side from a shock loss.

Gramenet’s players presumably never shut up about the day they stunned Messi.
