It is no longer news that the daredevil bandits attacked a military formation in Zamfara State on Sunday that led to the fall of a military base in Mutumji and killed 12 officers who were fighting the bandits.
The fall of the Mutumji military base in Zamfara State which served an important role to the military officers fighting the bandits in the state has called for a renewed efforts in the fights against the bandits that have rendered many innocent people homeless.
There have been several questions on the strengths of the bandits that attacked the military base and overran it after a fierce battle with the troops.
However, a report by Daily Trust has disclosed one major thing that contributed to the fall of the military base in Zamfara State and the killing of 12 security officers by bandits.
According to the report, communication failure caused by the shutdown of telecommunication services in the State is the major thing that led to the successful operation of the bandits that engaged the troops for several hours and eventually overran the military base.
The report explained that while the shutdown of the telecommunication services in the State has helped the army in the fight against bandits in the last few days, the bandits were able to regroup and took advantage of the lack of communication network in the area and laid siege on the troops of the Mutumji military base.
While the shutdown of telecommunication networks in the state has helped the Army on the positive side to bombard the bandits, it also has a negative impact which contributed to the fall of the military base in Zamfara State and the killing of 12 officers.
Recall that this is the second time the bandits is attacking military formations in recent times.
The daredevil bandits had earlier invaded the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna in August, killing two officers and abducted one Major.
