According to The PUNCH, the Enugu Depot Community of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has encouraged drivers and commuters, and those on election duty in Anambra to stock up enough gasoline before the election day on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Mr Chinedu Anyaso, Chairman of IPMAN in the zone, made the announcement in a discussion with the News Agency of Nigeria in Awka, where he took time to give reasons for his decision.
In The Punch’ s Report, Anyaso stated that the plan to close the filling station outlets was in accordance with the instruction of the Anambra State Government, which stated that Thursday and Friday should be work- free days to allow workers to travel to their respective polling places on Thursday and Friday.
He further stated that the Police Department has also ordered for a total shutdown to take place on Thursday, and that marketers would be required to comply with the directives.
The chairman advised marketers to give their employees and pump personnel who are eligible to vote the opportunity to travel and fulfill their civic responsibilities.
It was informed by him that there was sufficient supply in Anambra and that individuals in need of supplies should go to any shop and get them in order to avoid being stuck in a place on Friday.
Because filling stations/petrol stations will be closed by Thursday in accordance with these directives, he wish to advise individuals who will be on election duty to make every effort to purchase petrol into their vehicles on Thursday.
In addition, he explained that their employees, the majority of whom are eligible and registered voters in Anambra state, will be required to travel to their respective polling stations and vote, thereby exercising their civic rights.
Recall that the Nigeria Police Force has claimed that the huge presence of police operatives and other security agencies at some points in the state is not scare or intimidate them but to prevent any form of violence from happening.
