Manchester United willing to part ways with three players in exchange for Declan Rice
According to 90min (h/t Express), Manchester United are exploring alternative ways to sign West Ham United star Declan Rice.
The English international is one of the best young players in the league and can do a job in both midfield and defence. A key member of the Hammers squad, he has played a big role in their unlikely push for a Champions League spot.
The Red Devils are keen to strengthen their squad in the summer. With West Ham likely to demand
a king’s ransom for their skipper, they have been forced to look at alternative methods.
One of them includes offering players in exchange. According to the report, three stars namely Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Phil Jones have all been made available.
At 32, Matic is not getting any younger and is nearing the end of his stint at United. A defensive midfielder himself, Rice would be a long term replacement for the Serbian.
Jones, meanwhile, has struggled with injuries and has fallen far down the United pecking order. At 29, he still has a few years left in him and can resurrect his career elsewhere.
Marcel Sabitzer is a transfer target for Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool.
The ace in the pack!
United do, however, hold a trump card in Lingard. The 28-year-old is currently on loan at West Ham and has been nothing short of impressive.
An impressive return of six goals and four assists in just eight games has seen his value skyrocket. This has also seen the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City enter the fray for his signature.
West Ham are willing to do what it takes to land Lingard. By agreeing to a deal for Rice, they would be doing just that. While it is debatable if they will be willing to do that, it does hand United some leverage in negotiations.
