Mixed Reactions As ASUU Makes New Announcement On School Resumption

Recall that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had earlier directed universities across the country to resume academic activities on Monday 18th of January, 2021.

But due to the increase in coronavirus confirmed cases in the, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu has stated that the resumption of schools will be reviewed.

According to Channel Televion, On Tuesday 12th of January, 2021 The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) released a new announcement on school resumption.

Channel Televion reported that The Academic Staff Union of Universities announced that Nigerian universities are not prepared to resume amidst the second wave of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Following the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic in the country, the academic staff union of universities (ASUU) has urged the federal government to review it’s decision on reopening of schools.

The academic staff union of universities (ASUU) national president, Biodun Ogunyemi said his concern is rooted in the safety of the members of the union.

“what happened to congested hostels, crowded class rooms? What flexible arrangements are in place? It is a situation of emergency. I’m not sure universities can cope,” Ogunyemi said.
