There have been mixed reactions after the Federal Government of Nigeria accused some Nigerians in diaspora of funding secessionists in the country.
This revelation was made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on Tuesday, as he lamented that these tension caused by Nigerians in diaspora have have been portraying the country in bad light.
Reports said the Minister who made this statement in Abuja called on Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation to counter the false narratives by ” secessionist groups, insurgents and anarchists. ”
Read what Lai Mohammed said:
” Instead of contributing their quota to the country’ s development, all you hear from a section of Nigerians in diaspora and their allies back home are fake narratives and untrue allegations.
” As an organised and well connected group, I implore NIDO to leverage its contacts in government circles, parliamentary groups and global think- tanks in world capitals to help change the narrative and sweep the carpet off the feet of secessionist groups, insurgents and anarchists who are bent on pushing false narratives to portray Nigeria in bad light. ”
Lai Mohammed went on revealing that President Muhammadu Buhari’ s administration has considered Nigerians in diaspora as critical stakeholders in the Nigerian project and had even went ahead to establish a commission for them which is meant to unite the country not to divide.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have reacted accordingly to the allegations against Nigerians in diaspora.
@Onya Emmanuel said, ” Nigerian government and politicians funding terrorism, corruption, nepotism, killing with impunity, insecurity, yet refused to declare miyetti Allah and killer herdsmen terrorist organisation, restructure this country and let us have fiscal and true federalism foolish government. ”
@Paul Ewoma said, ” Since this govt is quick to detect the sponsors of secessionist, they should be competent enough to detect the sponsors of banditry and terrorism in the country. ”
@Damagum Isah said, ” And who is funding bandits? the sooner u realize that there is virtually no government in Nigerian the there is no sane government in the whole world that would allow what is happening in Nigerian. This government has failed and woefully for that matter. ”
What’ s your opinion? Is Lai Mohammed right?
