The Christian Association of Nigeria has elected Archbishop Daniel Okoh as its new leader. This information was made public on Thursday by the CAN General Assembly following the official recognition of Okoh’ s victory, which also spelt the end of Dr. Samson Supo Ayokunle’ s administration.
Okoh Becomes The New CAN President
According to the rules of the 2021 CAN constitution as revised, Okoh was nominated by the Electoral College, which was established to screen and recommend candidates for the offices of President and Vice President, respectively.
In the 12th General Assembly of the organization, the new President, who is also the General Superintendent of Christ Holy Church International, Onitsha, received 259 votes (100%) from the delegates present.
He is expected to hold office for a single five- year term.
Okoh urged President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the nation’ s growing insecurity during his acceptance address.
The new CAN President asserted that it is now essential for the Christian organization to respond adequately to societal challenges and that the group will continue to actively and productively contribute to the development of the country.
He stated, ” We are coming at a time when all of us who practice the Christian religion believe that some government authorities do not take into account the diversity of our society when making certain judgments.
