In an exclusive interview with BBC Pidgin, Obi Cubana gave a clear view of how he made his wealth, the ups and downs, the principles that guided him during the rainy days, and how he determined to archive all of the things he has today without staining his dignity.
Just as different people have been questioning his sources of wealth and some basket-mouths already concluded that he must have gotten his wealth through illegalities, Obi Cubana debunked such assertion and pointed out that, wealth can only come when you put the required effort to attract it, he added that native doctors cannot give wealth because even their children are struggling. Obi Cubana warned that people must stop making irrelevant statements and conclusions about other people’s lives. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Credit: BBC Pidgin.
While responding to a question that was asked by one of the BBC Pidgin correspondents, Obi Cubana narrated how his journey as a young graduate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka started.
I graduated from the University of Nigeria Nsukka where I studied political science in the year 1999 and moved to Abuja for my NYSC program. I couldn’t secure any job after the youth service, I had to share a single room with six of my friends. Life wasn’t easy, I have a lot of stories to tell, I can’t even mention the number of times I failed in different businesses until God finally blessed me. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.
I made my first 1.1 million as a housing agent, it was a contract job in Abuja back then, we were asked to bring clients who would buy houses or lands and earn 5% on each successful transaction. I used the money that I made from the contract business to start a small business which later grew and gave birth to Cubana, and now the Cubana group of companies.
Obi Cubana went on to explain why he spent so much on his mother’s burial. He explained that he had planned earlier to make his mother’s 80th birthday party the best in Nigeria, but unfortunately, she died before she could clock 80 years old, so, he decided to channel everything to give her a befitting burial.
He added that the way people turned up for the burial came as a surprise to him, saying that those who sprayed money were just his fellow big men, business associates, and friends.
In conclusion, Obi Cubana urged young men to work hard as that’s the only way to archive success, he added that he has helped a lot of young people to stand and won’t stop because it is another way to attract blessings. He also warned that native doctors can’t give wealth and that pastors even need it more than every other person, however, people should work, pray, and keep their hands clean from impurities.
