Nigeria is a country with three major ethnic groups which are Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo. Aside from this, the country is further divided into zones and example of it is the South- East zone, South- South zone, etc.
As regards leadership, it is believed that Presidency should be chosen or elected across all the three major ethnic groups through the principle of zoning of which is difficult to achieve in Nigeria and as such, results in different agitation.
Igbo people, precisely the South- East have been at the forefront of agitation because they felt cheated when it comes to leadership and development.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Says Nnamdi Kanu’ s Agitation Will Affect The Chance For Igbos To Produce President In 2023
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, an Igbo socio- political organization, has recognized that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB agitations, ‘ s will have an impact on the Southeast’ s chances of producing a Nigerian president in 2023.
Kanu’ s demand that his followers not engage in voter registration and destroy their Personal Voters Cards or PVCs, would harm the Igbo’ s chances of producing a Nigerian president, according to Dimm Uche Okwukwu, Deputy President- General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Okwukwu, in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST, asked Nigerians not to see Igbos through the eyes of Kanu and IPOB.
Igbos, according to Okwukwu, are peace- loving people who are always prepared to coexist with other Nigerians. Kanu, he added, should be ignored since he criticizes Igbo and non- Igbo leaders.
” Marginalization has a way of delivering results, and you will agree with me that the bulk of people are impoverished and marginalized.
” These poor disadvantaged people will follow you if you give them what they want to hear; however, Nnamdi Kanu is not getting it right since he has succumbed to violence as a way of life and has not limited it to Igbo leaders.
” He has attacked Asiwaju, Ekweremadu, and Rotimi Amaechi in Lagos; he has threatened to assassinate Igbo leaders and governors, so he is not only attacking outsiders; he is also assaulting his Igbo brothers and sisters” , Okwukwu said.
Okwukwu Says Nnamdi Kanu Is Not An Igbo Leader And Should Be Put Back Where He Belongs
Okwukwu, who is the Deputy President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo said that the Igbos need to take Nnamdi Kanu and put him back where he belongs, adding that Nnamdi Kanu is not an Igbo leader and so cannot speak on behalf of the Ndigbo people.
Okwukwu stressed that his argument remains that Igbos do not believe in violence, chaos, or the destruction of lives and property, adding that Igbos in Nigeria are eager to live in peace with other tribes.
” Igbos are demanding that the Presidency be given to an Igbo man 50 years after the conflict. Jonathan ruled for six years and Nigeria did not vanish; Yorubas were in power, the North controlled, and now the Igbo may rule. Will they have any other arguments tomorrow if you give them the presidency? Will they claim that Nigeria is pushing them out? The answer is no because people would wonder what they did with the presidency after they had it for eight years.
” Kanu’ s agitation will undoubtedly have a significant impact on our chances. Nnamdi Kanu’ s agitations, statements, acts, omissions, and commissions have an impact on us in some way.
” He is blocking Igbo voters from registering to vote, and he is urging supporters to destroy their PVC cards. Apart from the reality that Nigeria requires our assistance to some level, Nnamdi Kanu’ s actions reflect our own.
” The result of his conduct jeopardizes our desire because when you say people should trash their PVCs and not engage in voter registration, it affects us in some manner, and I won’ t deny it in any way.
” However, I implore to everyone not to mirror the Igbos through IPOB’ s actions. ”
CSEPNND Says Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB Is Being Sponsored To Destroy South- East And Thwart 2023 Presidency Vision
The Coalition of South East Professionals Network in Nigeria and the Diaspora (CSEPNND) claims to have validated its suspicions that the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is being funded by fifth columnists to destroy the region according to Daily Post.
According to the professional body, this confirmation comes after IPOB’ s pronouncements on rejecting the Igbo presidency in 2023.
The group also accused Nnamdi Kanu of collaborating with Southeast regional foes to derail the Igbo presidency.
” All the people being prepared for the job are stooges that would be utilized against the interest of Ndigbo, Biafrans, and the Biafra agitation groups, ” IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful said in a statement.
The group’ s National President, Prof. Madumere Chika, and National Secretary, Mazi Anayo Uchemba, issued a statement urging Southeast governors, Ohaneze Ndigbo, and other stakeholders to engage the people on advocacy as soon as possible ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The group urged people in the region to be vigilant, firm, and decisive on what they want and not succumb to the antics of Nnamdi Kanu and his likes, noting that IPOB’ s position had proven its earlier statement that it is being bankrolled by certain politicians from the South to scuttle Igbo’ s bid for the presidency in 2023.
Do you agree with this statement that IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu are working against Igbo Presidency in 2023?
