Today came with the tragic news of another road accident on the infamous Otedola Bridge. The Punch gathered that the accident which happened at 8 am has left one person dead and seven others injured.
This would not be the first time an accident of this magnitude is happening on Otedola bridge. On June 27, 2018, a tanker lorry fully loaded with petroleum product fell, leaked and exploded.
This led to the flames transferring to other vehicles approaching the lorry on the busy road. The death toll of this incident two years ago reportedly rose to 12 with at least 54 vehicles getting burnt.
However, the case at hand today is that of a tanker colliding with a fully loaded commercial bus on Otedola Bridge, Lagos. The accident which occurred at the lane inwards Berger is said to have caused heavy traffic that stretches beyond the state Secretariat in Alausa.
Emergency workers were reported to be on ground immediately to save the situation and prevent a fire outbreak.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) confirmed the accident. LASTMA noted that the accident involved a fuel tanker, a car and a commercial bus loaded with 10 passengers.
It tweeted, “Fatal accident on Otedola Bridge inward Berger involving a tanker and a Mazda bus. All relevant emergency agencies alerted. Traffic backlog building up beyond Secretariat.”
“Preliminary reports confirm that a Golf car was also involved in the crash. No casualties from the car. One passenger from the bus confirmed dead with seven others injured.”
