OH NO! ! ! Tears As Ex- Leader Of Ijaw Militant With 36 Children Commits Suicide In Warri (Photos)

Confusion in Niger Delta as a former Ijaw militant leader known as Friday Igbegbe has reportedly committed suicide in his Warri base, Delta state after a long battle with depression accompanied by the use of drugs.

Friday Igbegbe is from Ogbe- Ijoh in Warri South of Delta State. He is said to be a titleholder in the kingdom of Ogbe- Ijoh. He reportedly took the drastic step on Saturday evening, October 23 after a long battle with what seems to be chronic addiction occasioned by depressions

The Ijaw freedom agitator reportedly left behind about 36 children and many wives. They all allegedly abandoned him during his tribulation until he died.

According to the information credited to Nigerian Tribune, on Sunday evening, one of the chiefs in the community said Igbegbe had been battling with depression for about a year.

He said the deceased was taken to a rehabilitation centre in southwest Ogbomoso in Oyo State to be precise. He said Igbegbe was supposed to spend six months at the rehab center, but secretly left before the time and returned home to continue his drug addiction unabated. He eventually took his life on Saturday when he was alone. It is suspected that the drugs influence his decision to take his own life.

” We tried to help him. But the thing had gotten into his system. We took him to somewhere in Ogbomoso for rehab, but he ran away in less than three months. He was supposed to spend three months there but ran back home. He killed himself about three months after he left the center, leaving behind about 36 children. It’ s a sad event. God knows we tried our best to save him, ” the chief explained.

The remains of the ex- militant were laid to rest amid tears on Sunday, October 24, 2021, in the Ogbe- Ijoh Kingdom. Meanwhile, friends and comrades across Ijaw land have taken to Facebook to mourn their departed friend, leader, and comrade.

” So unpalatable to behold! Such an ugly sequence in a space of time Ijaw nation lost two of its ardent believers of the struggle! That of Chief Commander Richman Yinbiri, now Chief Igbegbe. He was a humane person and problem solver during his stay on earth. He never showed ego irrespective of the numerous influences he had but resolved to be a man with the people’ s hearts. We will miss him. May his soul rest in peace, ” Comrade Elewei Gbadia described the late former militant.
