The former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha made a series of revelations while speaking on a programme hosted by Channels Television on Sunday. The Senator representing Imo West Senatorial district surprised Nigerians by saying that becoming a governor made him poorer.
During Channels Television’s Politics Today, the former Governor challenged anyone who cared to provide substantial evidence of any property he acquired while in office. He noted that he became even poorer after he went for the second term in office.
Senator Rochas also talked about his encounter with the EFCC and concluded that nothing has been proved so far and that the matter was in court. He urged the public to remember that he was Rochas even before he contested and won the Imo state Governorship elections.
In his words, Okorocha said:
“I think people have forgotten that I was Rochas before becoming the governor of Imo State; I think they have forgotten completely.
I challenge anybody to prove that I acquired any property with any government fund.
If anything, becoming a governor made me even poorer than what I was in the past. I don’t know whether I acquired any property here in Abuja, there is none”.
More so, the former Governor further revealed that apart from the EFCC, the Imo state government had also taken him to court on the particular issue. He said:
“Imo State government has taken me to court on the same subject matter, and we are at the Federal High Court in Abuja on the same subject matter”.
However, the fact that politics in Nigeria is viewed by country men and women as a very lucrative source of income makes Okorocha’s disclosure rather unbelievable. In fact, Nigerians took to social media to react to the Senators claim. Some asked why he went on the second tenure if it wasn’t productive?
What do you think about Governor Rochas revelation?
