Okorocha’s Plan for A New Political Party: Reasons Why It Won’t Succeed (Opinion)

On Monday, the former governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha announced plan to create a new political movement ahead of the 2023 general election.

According to Vanguard, Okorocha said the political movement for the nation has started and that everyone must come together to make it work. He said the two major political parties in Nigeria, APC and PDP have many bad people as a result the good ones should come together to lead the people.

The truth is the nation’s problem is beyond forming a new political party. Okorocha is a founding member of the ruling party, APC but Nigeria has not experienced the change that they promised. If he forms a new party as he said, who are the good politicians that will make it work? The same old politicians will still come together in the new movement.

Prior to President Muhammadu Buhari winning the 2015 presidential election, he campaigned with restructuring the nation. However after he emerged, restructuring was no longer talked about. There is a need for devolution of power for the states to use their various resources properly. This is the solution to the nation’s endemic problems.

What’s your take on this? Do you think a new political party will help the nation?
