Okowa As Atiku’s Running-Mate Bad Omen For PDP In 2023, Says APC Support Group
As reactions continue to trail the historic emergence of the Governor of Delta state, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as the running mate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2023 presidential elections, a group has posited that his choice would lead to the defeat of the party next year by the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The leadership of the south-south APC Support Network in a statement in Port Harcourt, Rivers state on Friday said though it congratulated the Delta state Governorship for his emergence, “PDP has once again placed itself to be roundly be defeated by the All Progressive Congress. The PDP has lost the election before the first ballot is cast.
The group said it was praying fervently for Governor Okowa to be the one to be chosen as the VP candidate and alas God answered our prayers because the APC will beat the PDP at the polls. “This is due largely to the underperformance of Governor Okowa in Delta state”.
It noted in a statement signed by its south-south publicity secretary, Dr. Obasogie Fred said those who decided it was going to be Governor Okowa did a disservice to the PDP which has driven the final nail into the coffin of the party.
“The Governor Okowa candidacy is a walkover and we will go to sleep and wake up on election-day with Bola Ahmed Tinubu strolling into the villa”.
APC Support Network alleged that the dismal performance of the Governor in Delta State is partly the reason why “we say we are very happy for him to have emerged because he would not add any significant value to the PDP more especially when the people of Delta state are disenchanted with his administration that is not people-oriented, where corruption is on its high.
“Again, let us not forget quickly the role he played in profiling the ethnic genuine Fulani herders as criminals and went ahead to encourage the attack on these law abiding people in the state that has caused the loose of many innocent lives.
“Such a man cannot be entrusted with such high office because his action goes against the grains of the constitution and the oath of office he took which guarantees the right of free movement of Nigerians and the right to reside in any part of the country”.
The group noted that the unbridled appetite for borrowing has thrown Delta State into an object that will become an auctionable item in no distant time.
“As we issue this Press Statement a total of One Hundred and Seventy Five Billion has been borrowed in the last forty five days with nothing practically to show. So far the state has borrowed in excess of over Three Hundred Billion naira cumulatively in seven years. This is heart wrenching and calls for a thorough investigation by the anti-corruption agencies which we will encourage and push for.
“There is decrepit infrastructure all around the state safe for his local government where some sort of uninspired infrastructure is evident. This selective infrastructure placement at his local government alone where he concentrated so much energy very well position him as a sectional leader which, to our mind, Nigerians do not need at this time.
“Therefore we urge the teaming voting population to vote a detribalized Nigerian, a man with an open heart, builders of men and women, a proactive leader that comes with a fresh thinking and new ways of getting things done and that person is no other than Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress”, the statement said.
