Two factors can affect the performance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the year twenty twenty-three if things continue to go like this for the opposition party. The rate at which the activities of the party are dwindling is becoming a factor to worry about because the ruling party is gradually gaining support here and there ahead of the election.
People have initially thought that the opposition party will pose dangers to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2023, but the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) itself has problems to deal with internally. Two factors are affecting the progress of the party at the national level and the problems may dislodge the party in the year 2023 general election.
I want to point out the problems that the party is experiencing presently that may reduce the performance of the members of the party in the upcoming general election. The factors are affecting the opposition party currently and it may be worse for the leadership of the party to deal with before the commencement of the incoming presidential election.
Firstly, the rate at which potential politicians are leaving the opposition party is going higher day by day. Governors that can help the party control their states have now been defecting to the All Progressive Congress (APC). David Umahi from Anambra State defected to the ruling party in the late last year. Benedict Ayade from Cross Rivers State also joined the All Progressive Congress (APC). Lastly, Governor Bello Matawalle from Zamfara joined the ruling party recently.
Defection is one of the problems that the party is experiencing and it may break down the party is in the year twenty twenty-three when some key members of the party decide to leave the party. The second problem that may affect the progress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the year 2023 apart from defection is internal crises among the members of the party.
There are crises in some key PDP states that have not been settled till the present moment. Governor Godwin Obaseki has been having issues with some top PDP stalwarts in Edo State. They feel that Obaseki is still a new member of the party and he has no right to be controlling them as the leader of the party. Although the party has set up a committee headed by Dr Bukola Saraki to look into the issue, the crisis has not been completely settled.
Also, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is going through hard times in Oyo State as members of the party are pressurizing him to solve the problems of insecurity going on in some parts of Oyo State. Governor Seyi Makinde has been trying to solve the problem but it seems the issue is beyond what a state government can settle.
These aforementioned crises and others are part of the problems affecting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that may dislodge the party in the year twenty twenty-three presidential election. Defection and internal crises are the major problems that may dislodge the party in the year twenty twenty-three general election.
