In recent times, the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested many Nigerians for illicit drug-related offenses. However, the recent arrest of Chidinma and Chioma by the Agency is very unfortunate.
In this article, I will pinpoint two major things these Nigerian ladies did very wrong in their alleged drug trafficking activities. These two things are discussed thus:
- Offense against the state: one of the things Chidinma Caleb and Chioma Afam did very wrong in their actions is that they disobeyed Nigeria as a country.
In Nigeria, it is a crime to get involved in the movement of illicit drugs from one place to another. It is equally an offense to consume these drugs. For these ladies to have involved themselves in an attempt to move this quantum of illicit drugs from the South to Northern Nigeria is very wrong.
- Effects of their action on young Nigerian women: these two young ladies are very wrong to have created rooms for negative perceptions against Nigerian women, especially the young ones.
Young Nigerian women are mostly known as law-abiding citizens. They hardly involved themselves in unlawful businesses but the actions of Chioma who is only 36 years of age, and the 22-years-old Chidinma may now begin to force people to start looking at young Nigerian women as potential criminals.
Recall that, on the 17th of July 2021, Chidinma and Chioma were caught in a vehicle hiding 296,000 tables of illicit drugs in their hijabs. The NDLEA operatives arrested the suspected Drug Traffickers in Benue State.
According to the report, Chioma Afam who uses several names such as Uzoamaka, Amina, and Ifunaya to cover her crimes was caught alongside Chidinma along the Makurdi-Alliade expressway.
It was said that the young ladies who left Onitsha, Anambra state were heading to Gombe state with the drugs before they were intercepted in Benue state.
What are your reactions to the actions of these ladies?
