A shepherd is a person who takes care of a herd of sheep. The shepherd is responsible for the sheep and they obey him. It is a common saying that, “To scatter the sheep you must strike the shepherd”.
Recently, Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu were arrested by the government. While the former is still in Benin awaiting extradition, the later is in DSS custody here in Nigeria. The two men who wield so much power have been captured by the government.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is a man that has a lot of supporters. The secessionists agitator is known for his use of unprintable words on social media. He frequently insulted Nigerian leaders on Twitter.
He has so many followers. Some of them refer to him as “His Excellency”. Most of his followers adore him and obey every word he says.
However, ever since he was arrested, the agitations in the South East have calmed down. It seems as if his arrest triggered the return of peace to the South East.
His followers have all ran into hiding and we barely hear of IPOB or ESN again in the news. The arrest of their leader has demoralized the followers. His trial is set to begin on July 26.
Sunday Igboho on the other hand was initially fighting against what has been described as Fulani brutality in the South West. Igboho eventually changed his focus. He began to clamor for the Yoruba Nation.
He also gathered a lot of supporters and followers. They held Yoruba Nation rallies in all the South West states. Several states begged the agitators to stop the rallies but they refused. The last rally was held in Lagos some weeks ago.
Since the Government cannot go after the flock one by one, I believe they have struck the shepherd. It is obvious that the sheep have started fleeing.
