It is sad how people referred to as Unknown Gunmen(UGM) have unleashed terror on the lives and properties of people in the South East geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Few days ago, they killed an Igbo billionaire club owner known as Philip Noni Udala. He is the owner of FC Udala, a football club in Anambra State.
Udala was on his way home with his convoy before he was assassinated and burnt by the unknown gunmen along Eke Agu-Ideani road in Abatete community, Idemili North Local government area of the state. According to reports, he was shot dead and set ablaze in his Mercedes SUV by the assailants. The manager of his club, Godsent Eriobu was also shot dead and three policemen in their convoy.
Udala who got married in June, was a member of the Anambra state football association. He single-handedly sponsored the football club, which recently gained promotion to the National professional league. This philanthropist was murdered by people who have nothing to benefit the people of Anambra State.
It is high time the Igbos unite to fight this common enemy and leave politics aside. UGM is a common enemy that has destroyed livestock and properties of people in the South East. Unknown gunmen have attacked several military and police formations in the South East geopolitical zone of Nigeria. They have killed several policemen and military personnel and set ablaze many police stations in the South East.
There are ways their activities can be curbed, the people of the South East need to be re-orientated about the adverse effect of the activities of these criminals. Political and traditional leaders need to stand up and speak against their activities, while they equip security outfit such as Ebubeagu to go after these criminals. If they are not curbed now, one thing is certain, when they are done killing their targets, their trainers and supporters becomes the target.
