The 2023 presidential elections is gradually coming to the front burner of public discussion, as Nigerians look forward to elect another leader that would replace president Muhammadu Buhari once his tenure ends in two years time.
One person who would be instrumental in the nomination process is former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
The elder statesman was instrumental in picking his successor in 2007 when he settled for late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua as president. He was also in favour of Vice President Goodluck Jonathan taking over when his boss died in office.
Then came 2015, when Baba jumped ship to support Buhari to defeat then incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan after falling out with some members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party.
Although, Obj was not able to replicate his relevance in 2019 when he supported his former Vice Presidenr against the current occupier of Aso Rock, things are looking a little bit different this time.
In this article, here are three personality Obasanjo might support in 2023.
One name that readily comes to mind is that of Obasanjo’s former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. The pair seem to have maintained a close relationship even after Atiku lost the last elections. It is expected that the two politician gladiators would meet soon to startegize on how to rescue Nigeirans from the shackles of APC.
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso
If the PDP decides to zone their presidential ticket to the North, then former Governor of Kano state, Rabiu Musa Kwankaso has a better chance of getting Obasanjo’s endorsement. The pair worked together during Obj’s time in office and have maintained a cordial relationship that may bring them together once again in 2023.
The governor of Kogi State is a surprised inclusion owing to the fact that he belongs to another political party. But his recent meeting with Obasanjo showed that anything can happen in Nigerian politics.
