Ahead of today’ s meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Northern Caucus to elect a consensus national chairman, the stakeholders of the North Central Zone (which includes the states of Kogi, Niger, Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory) unanimously adopted former Senate President Iyorchia Ayu as their consensus candidate for national chairman.
The North Central Stakeholders Meeting, which took place late Tuesday night at the Benue State Governor’ s Lodge in Abuja, lasted four hours.
It was reported that party stakeholders in the zone persuaded aspirants in the zone to drop down for one another, allowing the North Central zone to elect a single candidate.
Former Senate President David Mark, former Senate President Ayu Iyorchia, former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana, former Kogi State governor Ibrahim Idris, and former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu have all been mentioned as candidates for the position of PDP National Chairman from the North Central zone.
It was reported that following hours of deliberation among North Central party stakeholders, former Senate President Iyorchia Ayu was adopted.
Former Senate Presidents Bukola Saraki, Mark, and Ayu attended the conference.
Former Governor Idris, PDP National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu; former Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatai Ahmed; and members of the Board of Trustees were also present at the meeting.
” This is a stakeholders gathering of the North Central PDP in continuation of seeking consensus candidates for the national presidency of the party, ” Governor Samuel Ortom told reporters after the meeting.
” We’ re looking for someone that has the ability, dedication, love, and passion for our party. ” We spent several hours here.
” The leadership of our party from North Central unanimously agreed to endorse former Senate President Dr. Iyorchia Ayu for national chairman of our party from North Central among the five people who were contesting. ”
” We didn’ t vote because we all felt that he is the best candidate for the job at this moment. ” The northern stakeholders of our PDP will meet tomorrow (today). As a result, he will be introduced to the party’ s northern caucus. ” I believe that through God’ s grace, they will accept him as well, ” Ortom said.
Other zones were also free to submit nominations, he added.
