On the 9th of March 2021, a Nigerian Catholic priest, Augustine Abiagom, took to his Facebook handle to send a gentle, but strong message to the leader of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The message was on two important points, as the clergyman stated that he has to say the truth no matter the condition. Firstly, he told Nnamdi Kanu, that if he fails to be united with the South-East leaders in the fight for Biafra, destruction may fall on him and his followers. Secondly, he told Nnamdi Kanu to checkmate his anger, because it is a vice that destroys good leaders. He also warned Nnamdi Kanu, over his remarks on a Catholic Bishop, who is advocating for unity among Nigerians.
After this Catholic priest made this message, several people took to the comment section to say bad words to him. Many questioned his silence when the Fulani killer herdsmen were causing havoc in the Northern part of Nigeria. People said bad words to God’s ordained, forgetting that he is also a human like us, who has feelings.
But today, Reverend Father Augustine Abiagom has a message for those who insulted him over his message to IPOB’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Again, he took to his Facebook page to disclose that he has read countless of insults from people over his message to Nnamdi Kanu. He revealed that despite the insults he received, it will not change the message he passed and it’s content. He adviced people to read his message again, to understand his motive behind sending the message. He prayed that the Almighty God will forgive those who hurled abusive words at him and that God’s blessing will be over all of them.
This Catholic priest is a human, who feels oain. It is bad that people will insult God’s ordained because he held a view different from theirs’.
