In the days before January 11, 2021, the social media was a washed with people’s opinion on what could be the possible outcome of the suit filed by Chief Phillip Umeadi (SAN) against the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma. It was a day that both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters anxiously waited for as the Supreme Court had earlier scheduled to hear the Philip Umeadi’s suit on that said day. However, January 11, 2021 came and the Supreme Court failed to sit on the case.
With the failure of the Supreme Court to sit on the matter, one of the surprising thing is that the Apex Court is yet to communicate to the parties involved, the reason for not sitting on January 11, 2021. Also, the Apex Court has equally not given a new date to hear the suit which is already pending before it. Following this development, many supporters of the PDP who were hoping to benefit from the suit have arguably developed cold feet as this seems to be the only hope of regaining the Governorship seat the party lost on January 14, 2020 when it’s candidate, Emeka Ihedioha was removed by the Supreme Court.
On the other hand, failure of the Supreme Court to sit in the case as earlier scheduled may have come as a sigh of relief to the APC and Governor Hope Uzodinma as many have argued that the Governor could loose his seat to the suit. But in the light of this latest development, many have continued to wonder what could be the possible reason the Apex court failed to sit on the said date, with no reason given to the parties involved, and as well as not fixing a new date yet. This has come to many as a surprise, while some have argued that the suit can only be delayed, but must be deliberated on by the Supreme Court, and at the end, justice must prevail.
Following the divided opinion that has trailed the failure of the court to sit on this matter on the date scheduled for it, and the key point of the suit which centers around the earlier judgement of the Supreme Court over the candidacy of the APC for the March 2019 Imo State Governorship election, we would like to hear from you concerning what you think about the whole issue at hand and what could be the possible end of the suit.
