The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), a northern organization, has labeled Muhammadu Buhari as a regional president.
The group went on to say that insistence on a leader from the north has put the area in jeopardy.
President Muhammadu Buhari
Buhari hails from the northern state of Katsina.
He was elected in 2015 after defeating the incumbent, former President Goodluck Jonathan, and was reelected in 2019.
Buhari’ s presidency, on the other hand, has been marked by rising insecurity, a deteriorating economy, and rising debts, among other things.
This was said by NEF spokesperson Hakeem Baba- Ahmed during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday.
According to him, the North’ s insistence on electing a president from the region in 2015 put the country in serious jeopardy.
He stated that for Nigeria to prosper, it must move beyond ethnic, regional, and religious sentiments when voting leaders.
” We learned a lesson from the North about this temptation to say ‘ only one of our own, ‘ ” he explained. We’ re in big difficulties right now because one of our own has gotten us into a lot of trouble. If the North doesn’ t believe me, they should have a look around.
” I’ m afraid we’ ll wind up going in circles and making the same mistakes we’ ve done before if we can’ t think of one country and develop people with equal rights beyond ethnicity and religion. Leadership has failed Nigerians in general, not just northerners.
Essentially, we’ re saying, ” don’ t let us keep going back. ” We’ re all in jeopardy if this country remains a prisoner of its primitive and restrictive past. ”
