The long awaited Edo state election is here already. Voting has commenced in different polling units in the state. About 12 polling units in different local Government Areas of the Southern Nigerian state were presented with electoral materials.
Officials of Independent electoral commission, INEC, and security officers, including the Nigerian army were seen in those approved voting centres.
Residents were surprised to see heavy flow of vehicles, containing hundreds of Nigerian police officers, Army, Civil defense corps and other security officers on 19 September, 2020 patrolling streets of Edo
Today, as the election kicked off in different locations, a report of violence was reported to have happened in one of the polling units in the state.
Torixus reported on their official social Media page that Orhionmwon local Government area of Edo state, witnessed a clash between the Nigerian police and some unidentified thugs, armed with different weapons.
According to Torixus, tens of thugs visited a polling unit in the local government area, chased voters and turned the area to War Zone.
Based on intelligent observation and clear photo description, men of the Nigerian police were seen running for their life during the attack.
The thugs reportedly snatched the ballot box and also collected other electoral materials from the officials of independent electoral commission, INEC.
At the time of filing this report, no life was lost during the attack, as many, including the police freed to various destination for their safety.
